Friday, October 21, 2016. Its a cool, crisp, sunny morning in the Tower Grove East neighborhood and 60 or so people have gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of East Fox Homes. Present are city and state officials, investors, lenders, contractors, architects, lawyers, insurers, and one community development intermediary…Rise, all partners in an investment in the community and some very special new neighbors.
Bhutanese refugees (ethnically Nepalese) have made this corner of the city home, and Messiah Lutheran Church has developed a support network to provide services to these newly arrived residents. This new development will specifically target this group in need.
The newly arrived immigrant population often finds it particularly difficult to locate suitable and affordable housing. They also most often do not have access to a car. The location is in one of the more dense residential areas of St. Louis and is near public transit, retail, employment, and other resources.
Thanks to all of the partners and everyone who attended the ceremony. What’s next? Well of course, a ribbon cutting ceremony! Stay tuned!
