Join Rise for a 3 part training for neighborhood and community leaders. Learn the tools needed so residents will have a say in the future of their communities.

These trainings will empower St. Louisans to organize and train members of their community. Participants will be equipped with the knowledge needed to build neighborhood resident capacity.

Dive deep into what makes people connect with the places they live and learn the essentials of real estate development in St. Louis.

Session 1 May 10th at 10am: Neighborhood Story Mapping
Due to overwhelming demand, we are offering this training for those who were unable to attend on May 31st at 1pm. Habitat for Humanity in South City will be hosting us.

By drawing on an asset-based approach to community development, story mapping enables residents to characterize opportunities and challenges in their communities in ways that they understand and experience. Participants will learn how to map valued places in a community and helps narrate neighborhoods from the perspective of those who live there.

Session 2 June 6th at 1:00pm: Real Estate Part I
The real estate development process will be explored, including what needs to happen before development starts, the construction phase, operation, and the various funding sources that are used to make developments successful. A glossary of terms to help participants understand acronyms and industry jargon will also be covered.

Session 3 August 8th at 1:00pm: Real Estate Part II
Participants will use the story maps created in the first session to  provide contextual solutions to the real estate challenges that are presented in a neighborhood (such as gentrification, depreciation, market conditions, etc). The session wraps up with discussions around permits, inclusionary zoning, input-gathering activities through meaningful community engagement.
