The son of two Nigerian immigrants, Phillip Adeniyi Sangokoya was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and moved to St. Louis for college. As a John B. Ervin Scholar, Phillip graduated with a double major in Entrepreneurship and Marketing and a minor in Psychology from the Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis in 2011. After graduation, Phillip spent five years in business banking and commercial lending for small businesses.

His passion for local community development and collaboration motivated him to co-found the Business Resource Association for Networking & Development (BRAND) of St. Louis with his partner and now wife Chavelle in 2014. BRAND of St. Louis is a social enterprise providing innovative and strategic solutions to help individuals and organizations build their brand, build their network, and make an impact. The organization works in collaboration with its nonprofit arm, BRAND Foundation, to accelerate the development of innovative, collaborative solutions in urban communities. 

Phillip currently works at US Bank Community Development Corporation (USBCDC) and has been promoted from Asset Manager in its New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) & Historic Tax Credits division to Investments Relationship Manager within its Specialty Finance division that specializes in Equity-like Investments, Commercial Lending, and Community Finance solutions for various NMTC investments, Affordable Housing Developers and Consortiums, as well as Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) around the country. Phillip also serves on USBCDC’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council that engages in both internal and external DEI initiatives. With over ten years as a St. Louis transplant, is proud to call St. Louis home and currently serves on leadership boards for Rise Community Development Young Professionals, Dream Builders 4 Equity, St. Louis Promise Zone Young Professionals, and the Leadership 100 Cohort of Regional Business Council Young Professionals Network. 

In recognition of his efforts, Phillip received the 2017 Young Leader Award from the St. Louis American Foundation for his commitment to minority-owned and minority-led companies through strategic management consulting, business planning, and entrepreneurial development. Phillip is also a 2019 honoree for St. Louis Business Journal’s 30 Under 30 Awards which showcases young professionals who are the next generation of movers and shakers.
