Nam joined Rise in August 2019 as a Practicum Student for the 2019-2020 academic year. As a Vietnamese refugee growing up in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Nam’s experiences have shaped her to pursue a vocation where she can be of service to others. In 2013, she served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in China and as a member of the Peace Corps’ Volunteer Advisory Council. Nam has over 10 years of demonstrated commitment to supporting the nonprofit sector across the country and abroad. Her direct social work practice experience in Orange County, California included collaborating with various community agencies to monitor and manage youth and families at-risk of placement disruption. Additionally, she provided academic support and guidance to individuals with behavioral health conditions.

Nam is a Certified Nonprofit Professional and holds an undergraduate degree in Political Science with a minor in International Studies from Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee. She is currently pursuing a Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in Domestic Social and Economic Development and specializations in Management and Policy at Washington University in St. Louis. She is interested in expanding her social work skills to develop effective strategies that can leverage vulnerable populations to have a seat at the table when creating equitable solutions for communities.
